Total is a French oil company that holds the largest oil extraction boat in the world : Pazflor.
This boat is 62 meters large and 325 meters long, which corresponds to three football fields. It is linked to 49 wells spread out on 600km2 that allow the production of 160 000 oil barrels a day. Pazflor floats off the coast of Angola, like Clov, another FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) that belongs to Total. The latter is almost as big as Pazflor. Clov is connected to 34 wells spread out on 400km2, and produces 160 000 oil barrels daily. These boats’ maintenance is crucial to prevent potential malfunctions that would delay the production.
They perform Level I maintenance operations themselves, which means regular controls to check the proper functioning of engines and anticipate potential repairs. This maintenance procedure is carried out on fixed objects, which entails many trips. The C2MI, Infra Materials Maintenance Center, is in charge of heavy maintenance procedures that help technicians when they need to repair equipments. It is very important to make sure the communication is fluid between the technicians and the C2MI.
Inspections before ermeo
Total operators work on paper. They print an Excel sheet in which they enter values during their rounds. The other supports they need are all paper based. Reporting takes place after rounds, in different softwares used to manage the boats. These maintenance rounds lead to an important amount of intervention reports, which is considered a waste of time for operators (due to the double or even triple entries) When it is done, the reporting is not necessarily conducted properly: there can be input errors, impossibility to reread, omissions, forgetfulness, etc. Databases are incomplete and data is not being exploited.
What ermeo has changed
Total operators download all data necessary for the proper execution of their rounds before starting. On tablets and without need for a network connection, they can view interactive procedures during which they collect data and update technical positions information. The operator has access to the information needed for the proper execution of their round and reporting is automated. When they connect to a network, the connection between ermeo and the softwares used to manage boats makes it possible to automatically enter the data in the appropriate software’s right square.
- The reports go to the EDMS (documentum)
- The equipments’ informations are in the CMMS (SAP PM)
- The sensor measurements are in the Sensor Database (PI system)
Total receives all collected data during the maintenance rounds directly on its data processing center. They can capitalize even more on the work conducted by their operators thanks to the data collected by ermeo :
- Operators’ productivity enhanced by 25%
- Optimization of the maintenance plan
- Management of the life cycle of technical positions
- The FPSO is operational 24/7
